The Anoka County Brotherhood Council, Inc. (ACBC) was organized March 30, 1971 for the purpose of extending a helping hand to people in need. In January 1976 the organization filed for tax exempt status. ACBC has been housed in several locations: Anoka-Hennepin Technical College, Riverwind Community Center, Milk Factory, and its current space in Anoka since March of 1996. Presently, the food shelf is operated by two part-time employees and approximately 150 volunteers.
In 2009 we served 8,109 families or 28,468 individuals, a 14 % increase over 2008.

- 992,750 Minnesotans live in households struggling to put food on the table.
- Hunger touches people of every age: 56 percent of food shelf visitors are families with children and 20 percent are seniors.
- More than 50 percent of adult food shelf visitors are employed, and in the Twin Cities suburbs alone, the working poor make up 60 percent of the people who use food shelves.
